"upgrade" Distributed Switch's Network IO Control / LACP Enhancements via PowerCLI?

$

vSphere 6.0.  PowerCLI 6.0 R1.

After using the New-VDSwitch PowerCLI command I notice that the vSphere Web Client shows there are "upgrades available" to the resulting Distributed Switch.

I know I can right-click on the Distributed Switch and select upgrade in the Web Client.

Anyone know how I can perform the upgrade using PowerCLI?

Easier way to do full screen

There has to be an easier way to go fullscreen and multi-monitors at the same time. Instead of just a fullscreen button and then "cycle" monitors, can't we just have one button that does full screen & multi-monitors? Or even better, keyboard shortcuts.

Re: Workstation 11 and connection to the built-in smart card reader

I am running Workstation 11.0.0 build-2305329 in two different environments. One network is set up to use ActivClient software and another is using 90meter. For ActivClient, when i set up my virtual image I installed the software and with little effort, the card reader (in Device Manager) which is a SCR3310 displays Microsoft Usbccid SmartCard Reader (WUDF) and there is no Smart Card device listed. The pass through works and ActiveClient can view my certificates.

However on the other network, I have the 90meter software installed with a HID Omnikey 3121 reader. The Device Manager shows the same driver Microsoft Usbccid SmartCard Reader (WUDF) but the Smart Cards device is showing a 90meter smart card installed. In this network, the 90meter software detects the card. The light will flash on the reader, but after 30 seconds or so I get an "Unauthorized Card!!!" error message. The log shows that 90meter could not find the certificates even though I am using the same card to log into my host.

Any thoughts?

trying to design an efficient authentication model for vCO with vCloud Director plug-in

Hello,

Background info:

- We are using vCloud Director with multiple organizations setup under a single provider VDC.

- We have two AD domains called domain A and domain B. domain A is configured as the LDAP authentication source for each org (the tenant users as vCloud Org admins), while domain B is the LDAP authentication source for vCD/vCenter system administrators.

- vCO, vCD and the vCenter Server vCD controls is on domain B.

- Physical workstations everybody use are in domain A. vCO client is installed on physical workstation.

- Attached is a diagram to help.

What we are trying to achieve:

- we want vCD org admins to be able to login to vCO and create and manage workflows for their own org.

- we want vCD/vCenter system administrators to be able to create and manage workflows for all of vCD and vCenter, as well as be the vCO system administrators.

I'm trying to figure out the most efficient way to setup access and roles for vCO itself, then ensure access for the tenant users is limited to their own orgs.

Looks like that resolved the issue, although I'm curious at to why you pick powershell v2 as your target given the improvements to job control and PS remoting in v3. Please consider revising the following portion in your install guide (p58) or including a full matrix of supported/tested software components.

Install Windows PowerShell in Windows Server 2008

1 Open the Start menu and select Server Manager.

2 In the left pane of the Server Manager window, click Features.

3 In the right pane of the Server Manager window, click Add Features.

4 In the Select Features window, add a checkmark next to Windows PowerShell, then click Next.

5 In the Confirm Installation Selections window, click Install.

6 At the Installation Results window click Close.

7 Close the Server Manager window.

8 Run Windows Update (Start Menu > All Programs > Windows Update).

9 Click the Check for updates button.

10 Install all available updates (including optional updates).

Thanks for assistance so far, will continue with the test runs and see how it goes from here.

You cannot use HTML access to launch View apps. You need to install VMware view Client on your desktop to be able to use published apps,

Re: Is there a solution to the COPY PASTE problem in Workstation???

For the stale clipboard issue (let me know if this doesn't apply to you). But it's generally caused into too many nested clipboard transferring systems.

Example 1:

RDP into a machine that is hosting a VM. Copy something from the host and paste into the machine. It will not properly work. Press CTRL+ALT to release cursor on that machine and then go back and paste it, it works. That's because you are doing Host => RDP => Host => Virtual Machine. VMW only picks up changes in the clipboard when it doesn't have focus.

Example 2:

Same as above but with nested VM

Example 3:

A lot of programs hijack the clipboard and like I said, VM cannot update or refresh or know that the clipboard contents changed until you lose focus of it.

If none of the above are your example, next time it happens, just press ctrl+alt to let the VM focus go. Then go back and paste/copy. Does it work then?

I know this is really old but I wanted to thank you for posting this! I think I have been having the same issue for quite a long time and I think you have identified the root cause.

For those that might be reading this I would like to list the symptoms of my situation:

We have several Dell M620 ESXi hosts running NPAR on 4 physical adapters for a total of 24 vmnics on the ESXi host. In our case the vCenter VM would begin to vMotion from the source ESXi host to the destination ESXi host and fail at about 65%. The destination ESXi host  would become "disconnected" from vCenter immediately after the vMotion failure. Checking vCenter and the vMotion event would be listed as failed. The vCenter VM actually completes the migration to the destination ESXi host even though it is showing as failed. Checking on the CLI of the destination ESXi host if you tried to ping vCenter it would not respond even though it was running on that host and they were both on same network. A big tell-tale I was also seeing was "(incomplete)" entries in the destination ESXi host's ARP table for the vCenter VM when I checked that. On the vCenter VM, I could not ping the ESXi host it was running on either but it pinged everything else just fine. The vCenter VM could continue to successfully ping and ARP all other ESXi hosts though. We have been using a similar workaround to option #2 described here but now at least I understand why that seems to work.

Mike

For what it's worth, I tried compiling the 4.1.1 drivers for 6.0 a month or so back and completely struck out.  The 4.x driver looks to be a substantial rewrite because there are large changes to the source, even for older NICs.  It may take a while to get it working under vSphere.

I had the same problem on the Windows version of vCenter.  You need to launch a command prompt by right clicking and then Run as Administrator.  Then launch the setup from the command prompt.  Right clicking the setup file and then Run as Administrator does not work.  Thank you, Zach.

Exactly, that's why I mentioned this option in my first reply. It's easier to do and less error-prone.

No desktop appears

I am using the latest VMWare Horizon View client for linux on a fresh install of Ubuntu-Mate 15.04 64 bit.

I can connect to our schools server but when I click on a virtual desktop to use it appears to start loading but all I ever see is a black screen and then the connection attempt fails.

I have tested this same VDI server with my Mac computer and get a desktop every time.

Re: Patch Cisco Custom Image

Hello,

As far as my understanding goes:

We have a CISCO server with a CISCO custom ISO. These will usually, and I say usually, have specific drivers that are not addressed in VMware ISOs, and a patching will not generally replace the existing CISCO drivers. (Plain terms, there is nothing there for a VMware ISO to replace) However, this might not always be the case. Best practice, have a check with CISCO if they have any patch releases for your version.

  @{Name="Cluster";Expression={$cluster = (get-view -ID $_.runtime.host).parent;(get-view -ID $cluster).name}},

  @{Name="Folder";Expression={(get-view -ID $_.parent).name}},

IMO there's no need for a second Management VMkernel port group. With your current layout you do have two uplinks (vmnics) for the VM network, and assuming that this is the network used for Management, the Management Port Group can already failover to another uplink in case one fails.

Re: Patch Cisco Custom Image

Hi theire,

so in the last Years i stayed away from Customized vendor Isos. Reason is that Vmware is not Happy with the Customized ones once facing Problems. They are repointing to the other Vendor on trying to handle support Ticket.

So as for that i just used since years a clean default Vmware Image and all necessary Drivers i inject afterwards. Manually or through Update Manager.

Had more less Issues with Default Isos then with fully Customized Vendor ones.

So back to Question.  if you like to update driver for Cisco, then you could download latest supported ones for you're Model and add into you're Update Manager.

Best regards

Max
